Richard Serrano is a trailblazer and God fearing man who loves people and is known for helping others wherever needed. Richard is a man of integrity, kindness and has a gentle spirit. He has a love and passion for married couples and families.
His motto is, “I am my brother’s keeper.”
His parents came to Philadelphia from Puerto Rico, and as a result Richard was born March 2, 1963 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was raised Catholic most of his early years. He loved to play basketball and after high school he attended Lincoln University. The highlight of his basketball career was when he played Semi-pro basketball in Puerto Rico. He also played with several leagues throughout the Philadelphia region and the Tri-State areas.
It was while playing basketball at the Salvation Army Hispanic Christian Basketball League in Philadelphia, Richard heard about Christ from his coach and friend Raul Ortiz, who was also one of the leagues spiritual leaders. His heart was moved and after receiving Christ he later became a spiritual leader himself.
Richard met and married the love of his life in July 1989. He married Evangelist Nephetina L. Serrano. They currently have been married for 26 yrs. Richard became a License Deacon in 1990 under the leadership of Reverend Robert Montgomery Sr., Jesus Loves You Church of God In Christ in Philadelphia. It was after that when Richard realized he wanted to give back and he returned to the basketball league and became one of the spiritual leaders. Richard also helped coach, pray, guide, and gave mini sermons before the games.
He joined Mt. Airy Church of God In Christ in 1991 and he has been a member for over 24 years under the leadership of Bishop Ernest C. Morris Sr, and current Servant Leader, Pastor, J. Louis Felton. He is soon to be ordained as a licensed minister that he might carry out the call of God and fulfill his purpose in life. He has worked within the following areas of ministry while at Mt Airy: Couples Marriage Enrichment and Family ministry Steering Committee, Group Leader, Evangelism, Street team, Men’s Fellowship, Hospice, Media team, Choir, Drama ministry and Basketball Assistant Coach.
Richard is a true leader, life coach, visionary, entrepreneur, marriage coach and mentor. He started his first company in 1993, an Awards & Trophy business, “National Custom Plaques”. After 20 plus years and two locations later he retired that business in pursuit of his greater calling as minister. He and his wife have been working in couple’s ministry for over 20 years and currently serve on three administrative boards. The boards served on are Mt Airy Marriage Enrichment and Family Ministry, Marriage Ministry Together, Inc. Leadership team and Black Marriage Day Steering committee 2015.
Richard is the President and Co-founder of Covenant Marriages, Inc. which he started with his wife out of the desire to see couples live in harmony and have marriages that last forever while achieving the ultimate success in marriage. Their Mission is to encourage, uplift and inspire couples to have healthy marriages and to pursue oneness within their marriage and to fulfill their individual God given purpose and destiny.
Richard is the Chief Executive Officer of Philadelphia Covenant Rescue for Marriages. A nonprofit organization created To Protect, Preserve and Restore the life of the Family and the Community the way God intended it to be. A program designed to help aid couples in crisis. Offering Prayer 24 hour Hotline, Counseling, Coaching, Schedule appointments with a counselor or coach and Mentorship Program.
Richard Serrano is also the Founder of Men of Purpose, A mentoring program designed to inspire and motivate men to reach and embrace the greater purpose within. This will be accomplished though the word of God. Our team of mentors will go out to speak at Organizations, Schools, Shelters and Churches, conduct presentations, seminars and workshops. By achieving these goals we will help Men become Men of worth, Men of strength and Men of God.
